Ukraine will receive Leopard 1 armoured vehicles with the Skyranger 35 (SR35) turret, Rheinmetall announced in a press release on 10 October. The triple-digit million euro order is financed by an unidentified European Union (EU) country using frozen Russian assets.

The systems will be produced and integrated by Rheimetall Italia at its headquarters in Rome.

Rheinmetall unveiled the Leopard 1 SR35 turret at a live firing demonstration at its Ochsenboden range in Switzerland on 18–19 September 2024.

The SR35 is armed with a 35 mm×228 calibre KDG 35/1000 calibre revolver cannon with a rate of fire of 1,000 rds/min and an effective range of 4,000 m. It can fire all standard Rheinmetall 35 mm ammunition, including Advanced Hit Efficiency And Destruction (AHEAD) rounds, with the possibility of equipping the system with guided missiles in the future.
