Saab showcased its Double Eagle family of remotely-operated vehicles (ROVs) for mine countermeasures (MCM) at Clarion Defence's Undersea Defence Technology (UDT) 2026 exhibition held in London from 14-16 April.

In April 2026 the UK Royal Navy (RN) announced that it had taken delivery of the second of four remote Maritime Mine Counter Measures (MMCM) primary systems for evaluation and testing.

The RN's system used to eliminate detected mines is a Saab Multi-Shot Mine Neutralisation System (MuMNS), based on a remotely operated vehicle (ROV). A MuMNS completed a first successful firing in an operationally representative environment in May 2025.

The Double Eagle family comprises three modular, double-hull ROV platforms. Each of these can integrate Saab's mine disposal charges such as the DAnish Mine DIsposal Charge (DAMDIC) or Mine Neutralisation System (MNS) charges to perform sub-surface explosive ordnance disposal against naval mines.

All Double Eagle ROVs are designed to be launched from ships or coastal installations, are effective at depths of up to 300 m. They can be deployed and operated from containerized ISO modules for use with multiple surface vessel designs.

MuMNS

The Double Eagle MuMNS is a tethered ROV optimised to conduct ordnance disposal missions against naval mines. The MuMNS platform has a magazine of up to three MNS charges, which are attached to mines via a manipulator arm. The MNS charges are available in different variations: pre-filled insensitive shaped charges, user-filled charges in qualified containers, and reusable dummy variants for training.
