Romania considering upgrading legacy LAROM MRLs

Romanian company Aerostar SA and Elbit Systems showcased a potential upgrade the Romanian Land Forces' inventory of legacy LAROM multiple rocket launchers (MRLs) at the at the Black Sea Defense Aerospace (BSDA) exhibition held in Bucharest from 13-15 May 2026.
The Romanian LAROM is so-called because of the Elbit-made 160 mm Light Artillery Rocket (LAR) it fires, with ROM signifying Romania. The “LAROM Upgrade” package is designed to allow the launcher to “support medium and long-range guided rockets” beyond the LAR and 122 mm (GRAD) unguided rockets it currently fires. The upgrade would see the launcher capable of carrying four extra rockets, or 18 Accular guided rockets in 120 or 160 mm calibre per launch pod.
The LAROM Upgrade would keep the same DAC 665T 6x6 truck as the existing MRL but Aerostar and Elbit confirmed it will include the integration of the Mobile Fire Control System (MFCS) which belongs to Elbit's Precise & Universal Launching System (PULS). Current PULS customers include Israel, Greece, Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands.
LAROM 160 was originally a collaboration between IMI and Aerostar to support the Romanian Land Forces in the 1990s. The MRL was capable of striking armoured targets out to 45 km at a rate of 26 rockets every 45 seconds. A total of 54 LAROM launchers are operated by the Land Forces' 52nd Artillery Regiment, part of the 4th Infantry Division.
