Roketsan has conducted the first firing of its Sungur air-defence missile from the company's Burç mobile ground-based air-defence system, the Turkish company announced on 14 September 2026.
During the test, a Sungur missile launched from Burç successfully engaged a moving aerial target, according to footage and information released by Roketsan. The company described the event as the first launch of Sungur from the Burç system.
Burç is a mobile ground-based air-defence system combining very short-range surface-to-air missiles with a cannon. According to Roketsan documentation Burç has eight Sungur missiles mounted as the primary armament and a 20 mm or 30 mm cannon as the auxiliary weapon. The turret is stabilised through 360°.
Sungur uses an imaging infrared (IIR) seeker, operates in a lock-on-before-launch/fire-and-forget mode, and has a stated maximum range of 8 km. Roketsan lists fixed-wing aircraft, rotary-wing aircraft, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) among the missile's target set.
Burç incorporates active and passive search-and-tracking sensors providing 360° air surveillance, together with an electro-optical/infrared sensor suite. Roketsan says the system fuses sensor data for target classification and operator decision support. Identification friend or foe (IFF) equipment and a data link enable Burç to operate within a wider command-and-control architecture, while it can also work as a standalone system. Roketsan adds that the stabilised turret enables fire-on-the-move engagements.
