Raytheon, DoD announce USD20.7 billion agreement to accelerate AMRAAM production

The US Department of Defense (DoD) announced on 28 September a five-year multi-year contract with two option years valued up to USD20.7 billion with Raytheon to increase production of the company's Advanced Medium‐Range Air-to-Air Missile (AMRAAM).

The contract was awarded on 25 September 2026, according to a Raytheon press release.

Raytheon President Phil Jasper said in the release the company has made investments in its “workforce, technology, supply chain and facilities to rapidly scale production capacity and meet surging demand from the U.S. Air Force, Navy and our international partners”.

The contract stems from an agreement between Raytheon and the DoD to produce at least 1,900 AMRAAMs annually, announced in February 2026.

The agreement, alongside four other agreements for land attack and maritime strike variants of Tomahawk, Standard Missile-3 Block IB interceptors (SM-3 IB), Standard Missile-3 Block IIA interceptors (SM-3 IIA), and Standard Missile-6 (SM-6), reach up to seven years.

Besides AMRAAM production, the agreements increase annual production of Tomahawks to more than 1,000 and SM-6 missiles to more than 500, with goals to increase production of SM-3 IIA and accelerate production of SM-3 IB.

Raytheon said at the time that production of the munitions will be completed at company facilities in Tucson, Arizona, Huntsville, Alabama, and Andover, Massachusetts.
