German Navy tests IAI's Lora ballistic missile system

The German Navy has test-fired Israel Aerospace Industries' (IAI's) long-range artillery Naval (LORA) surface-to-surface ballistic missile, the force announced on 2 September 2026.
Vice Admiral Jan Christian Kaack, Head of the German Navy said that, “With the successful launch of a ballistic missile last night in the North Atlantic, we have written naval history. I am very satisfied with this achievement. The system is successfully deployed by our units and the possible range exceeds anything we have known so far. “
The dual test-firing was conducted from an operational German vessel, with the equipment comprising a command trailer and a launcher. In both launches the missile successfully followed its set course and trajectory and hit its target, said IAI in a press release the same day.
IAI's Naval LORA, with a deck-mounted launcher and command trailer, follows a ballistic trajectory at supersonic speed to a land or sea target, but can perform random or programmed in-flight evasive manoeuvres to mitigate tracking and interception. It can carry a 600 kg penetration or fragmentation warhead up to 430 km using its single-stage solid-fuel rocket motor. It has inertial navigation system (INS) and global navigation satellite system (GNSS) guidance, and likely has an infrared (IR) TV camera seeker.
A truck-mounted version of the LORA is in service with Azerbaijan's army, and the naval version is in testing with the Israeli navy.
