The Finnish Defence Forces (FDF) Logistics Command has placed an initial order for the RBS 70 NG MANPADS (Next Generation) manportable air defence system (MANPADS) from Saab, the Swedish company announced in a press release on 28 August 2026. Saab said the SEK1.2 billion (USD120 million) contract includes the possibility of placing additional future orders for the RBS 70 NG, as well as training, spare parts, and maintenance equipment.

Finnish Defence Minister Antti Häkkänen authorised the FDF to procure the RBS 70 NG from Saab, his ministry announced in a press release on 3 July 2026. The Finnish Ministry of Defence (MoD) said at the time that the procurement would strengthen regional air defence coverage throughout Finland.

It added that the procurement would include launchers, training equipment, and a maintenance system, with a full operational capability planned for the end of the 2020s. Training, including of conscripts, will be conducted by the FDF's Karelia Brigade.
