Belgian firearms manufacturer FN Herstal (FNH) unveiled its new Arka rifle at the Eurosatory 2026 exhibition held in Paris from 15-19 June.
The Arka is a short-stroke gas-operated, selective-fire, magazine-fed, air-cooled assault rifle chambered for the 5.56×45 mm cartridge. The Arka is based on the overall architecture of the FN SCAR series, and introduces certain control and ergonomic features from the AR-15 pattern of rifles. The Arka retains the short-stroke gas piston system of the SCAR, though the working parts have been somewhat redesigned. For the Arka, FN shortened the bolt-carrier extension (known as the shank) and extended the operating rod of the piston assembly. The SCAR's monolithic receiver is retained, though the Arka's now incorporates M-LOK accessory mounting slots instead of the SCAR's NATO type rail inserts. These M-LOK slots are present on the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock position of the forend.
