US Department of State approves possible sales of UH-60L Blackhawk helicopters to Argentina

The US Department of State has approved a possible Foreign Military Sale (FMS) of UH-60L Blackhawk Helicopters and related equipment to Argentina for an estimated total cost USD140 million, the department confirmed on 10 September in public statement.

The Government of Argentina has requested to buy four UH-60L Black Hawk helicopters and two (2) T700-GE-701D engines, the Department of State said.

The helicopters are the first four of a batch of 20 aircraft, US Ambassador to Argentina Peter Lamelas posted 11 September online on X.

A high-ranking officer from the 601st Assault Helicopter Battalion, the unit that will operate the helicopters, told Janes on 11 September the aircraft will be used to replace the 25 UH-1H helicopters that were not upgraded TH-1H Huey II helicopter standards.

Only a few of helicopters to be replaced have remained operational, the officer said.

The T700-GE-701D engines are used by the UH-60M helicopters and will be upgraded to a UH-60V helicopter standard, the officer said.

The army also has 18 TH-1H Huey IIs, which will coexist with the Black Hawks until more Black Hawks can be obtained, the officer noted,

The intention is to have the four Black Hawks obtained from the US in December 2026 and delivered Argentina by January 2027, the officer said.
