Peru acquires fifth Leonardo C-27J aircraft

Leonardo announced on 14 May that the Peruvian Air Force (Fuerza Aérea del Perú: FAP) ordered its fifth C-27J Spartan aircraft as part of “its air mobility enhancement programme aimed at addressing the country's complex geography, challenging terrain, and the need to reach remote areas”.
The aircraft is expected to be delivered to the FAP's Grupo 8 in 2027.
The sale marks the 100th aircraft sold as part of the multi-role tactical airlifter programme; the C-27J has been procured by 21 worldwide operators, Leonardo said in its 14 May statement. It was in service in 18 countries as of 2026.
Leonardo said in a statement that the Peruvian C-27J will be the first to be outfitted with the “Next Generation configuration”, which includes “new avionics and aerodynamic enhancements”.
Peru will use the aircraft to “to conduct transport, airdrop, rescue, disaster relief, and firefighting missions”, according to Leonardo, ranging from hot and humid conditions to the altitudes of the Andes.
The FAP has used the aircraft since 2015, logging nearly 16,000 flights hours, 600 medevac missions, as well as transporting “almost 240,000 people and 9,000 tons of cargo” as of 2026, the company said.
