BOMA 2026: Aerix Systems to integrate AXS- µ1 interceptor with USV

France-based Aerix Systems plans to integrate its AXS-μ1 interceptor unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) with an unmanned surface vehicle (USV) in early 2027, Hugo Mayounove, president and co-founder of Aerix Systems told Janes on 11 September during the Bold Machina (BOMA) 2026 NATO exercise.
“We are discussing this in cooperation with some companies but it's too soon to say any more on this,” Mayounove said.
AXS-μ1 interceptor
The AXS-μ1 currently reaches 120 km/h on intercepts of NATO Class 1 size UAVs and has a flight time of up to 10 minutes. “In a few months' time, it will be [able to reach] 200 km/h,” Mayounove added. The AXS-μ1 has an electro optical (EO) camera, weighs up to 4 kg, and 40 cm wide x 60 cm long, according to Mayounove. The interceptor uses the AXS-FC flight control system which was developed in-house. “Our algorithm that we developed essentially anticipates the trajectory of the target. We are not just going to the point where the target is located now. We are anticipating where it will end up,” Damien Dumoulin, navigation engineer at Aerix Systems told Janes. He added, “we don't use Pixel Lock or Betaflight or anything [other flight control software] like that.”
The interceptor is guided to its target using UK company Vizgard's FortifAI autonomy platform. Mayounove confirmed Vizgard's AI-based object classification was one of the main reasons for the collaboration. “But we are also agnostic in that sense and can use AI provided by other companies,” he added.
