Türkiye launches Malaysia's final LMS Batch 2 vessel

Türkiye's STM has launched the third and final vessel in the Royal Malaysian Navy's (RMN's) Littoral Mission Ship (LMS) Batch 2 programme.

The vessel, which will be in service as KD Tunku Osman Jewa with pennant number 143 once commissioned, was launched at Istanbul Shipyard on 9 August, STM announced on the same day.

STM said all three corvettes were launched within a four-month period. The lead ship, Tunku Laksamana Abdul Jalil, was launched on 24 May and the second vessel, Raja Laut, on 7 June.

The LMS Batch 2 vessels are being built by STM under a government-to-government arrangement between Malaysia and Türkiye.

The programme was formalised in June 2024 when Malaysia handed over a letter of acceptance for the three-ship acquisition, which STM has described as Türkiye's first corvette export to the Asia-Pacific. Steel cutting for the class took place in December 2024, while keel laying commenced in April 2025.

Designed for RMN operational requirements, the LMS Batch 2 ships are derived from the Turkish Navy's Ada-class corvette design.

It has an overall length of 99.56 m, a beam of 14.42 m, a draught of 3.94 m, and a displacement of approximately 2,500 tonnes.

The vessels are powered by four diesel engines in a combined diesel and diesel (CODAD) configuration, providing a top speed of more than 26 kt and a range of more than 4,000 n miles at 14 kt.
