Third Brazilian Tamandaré-class frigate is launched

The third Tamandaré-class multi-purpose light frigate F Cunha Moreira (F202) was launched and christened on 26 June,
The 107.20 m-long combat ship, displacing 3.455 tonnes, is scheduled to be loaded out in July to undergo final fittings and sea trials between July 2026 and 2028, the General Directorate of Navy Materiel told Janes . The ship is scheduled to be commissioned in 2028.
The Surface Force Command commissioned the first-of-class frigate F Tamandaré (F200) on 24 April.
Two more ships in the Tamandaré-class, F Jerônimo de Albuquerque (F201) and F Mariz e Barros (F203), are being built in Itajaí, State of Santa Catarina, with their commissioning dates scheduled for 2027 and 2029, respectively.
The F Jerônimo de Albuquerque frigate, which was launched on 26 August 2025, is to begin sea trials in August for commissioning in the first half of 2027, Vice Admiral Marcelo Silva Gomes, director of the Directorate of Navy Programmes Management, said on 23 June. The keel-laying of F Mariz e Barros is scheduled to take place in the second half of 2026.
The Brazilian shipbuilder TKMS Estaleiro Brasil Sul is building four MEKO A-100MB ships as part of a contract signed in March 2020 between the Brazilian state-owned company EMGEPRON (Empresa Gerencial de Projetos Navais) and the Águas Azuis consortium (formed by TKMS, Embraer, and Atech), as part of the Surface Means Procurement Program PROSUPER (Programa de Obtenção de Meios de Superfície).
