Swedish company Nautrik trialled its new R4 unmanned surface vehicle (USV) at NATO Exercise ‘REPMUS 26' (Robotic Experimentation and Prototyping with Maritime Unmanned Systems) which took place from 31 August to 25 September 2026 in Portugal. The company also showcased its mission autonomy system at the exercise.

Speaking to Janes at REPMUS on 22 September 2026, Oscar Fors, CEO of Nautrik, said that the company initially began by converting jet skis to USVs. 15 were converted and four were used at REPMUS 25 in September 2025. Since then Nautrik has produced a new USV, the R4, built at Swedish shipyard Nimbus Boats, Fors said. On 3 September 2026 Nimbus announced a framework agreement with Nautrik for the production and assembly of USVs.

R4 is a 4 m USV with diesel propulsion. Fors said that the small size of the USV means that four of the type take up the same space as one 8 m long craft. This is due not only to R4's shorter length, but also a reduced beam compared to larger craft, he said.
