Polish A26 submarine contract key to Saab's Q2 2026 results

Saab has attributed growth in its second quarter 2026 results, published in July, partly to the contract awarded by Poland for three A26 diesel-electric submarines.

On 29 June Poland's Armaments Agency, under the Ministry of National Defence (MND) awarded Saab the contract for its Orka programme, which Saab values at SEK47 billion (USD4.8 billion). The contract covers the submarines themselves plus weapons, training, and support. Saab says final deliveries are scheduled during 2038.

Saab established Naval as a standalone business area effective from the second quarter of 2026. On 16 July, after the conclusion of Q2, Saab received a SEK8.7 billion order from TKMS to provide and integrate combat systems, composite structures, and sensors for the first four German Navy MEKO A-200 DEU-class frigates.

On 30 June Saab signed a SEK24.6 billion contract with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) for 16 Gripen E combat aircraft for Ukraine. Despite being signed on the final day of Q2, Saab said the order would be booked in Q3 2026.

In Q2 the twin seat F Gripen variant was presented, while on 27 May Canada named Saab the preferred supplier for its future AEW&C capability, based on the GlobalEye platform. This was followed in July by NATO's selection of GlobalEye for its future AEW&C capability, with the alliance set to enter formal negotiations with Saab for up to 10 aircraft.
