The US Department of State has approved the sale of additional Heavy Duty Tank Trailers (HDTTs) to Israel, the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) announced on 12 September.

It did not say how many HDTTs it has approved but said the deal is estimated to be worth USD164.6 million with related equipment. This estimate includes an earlier Israeli request for HDTTs that were estimated to be worth USD40.1 billion, which is below the threshold that requires Congress to be notified.

The DSCA identified Leonardo DRS as the primary contractor and said deliveries are expected to be begin in 2027.

The US Department of Defense awarded DRS Sustainment (part of Leonardo DRS) a USD12.3 million contract for an unspecified number of trailers under the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programme to Israel in March 2020. The company was awarded another contract worth USD15.4 million to produce an unspecified number of HDTTs for Israel in December 2023.
