Togo parades new Tigr-M armoured vehicles

The military parade to celebrate Togo's 66 ^th anniversary of independence on 27 April 2026 included Russian-made Tigr-M 4x4 armoured vehicles for the first time.

Five Tigr-Ms were seen with the Armoured Reconnaissance and Support Regiment (RBRA) in the television coverage of the parade, all of them armed with heavy machine guns in Arbalet-DM remotely operated weapon stations.

Russia's President Vladimir Putin ratified a Russian-Togolese military co-operation agreement in October 2025. The document, released by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, says that this covers exchanges of expertise on various aspects of military and security activities, which can be facilitated by exercises and visits by naval vessels and military aircraft. Togo's leader Faure Gnassingbé then visited Moscow in November 2025.

The RBRA contingent in the parade also included the Emirati-made Kasser II armoured vehicles that were seen for the first time in the 2025 parade and appeared to reflect a shift in the regiment's composition to include infantry. Four of the unit's legacy Scorpion tracked reconnaissance vehicles also featured in this year's parade.
