Taiwan has taken delivery of the final batch of M1A2T Abrams main battle tanks (MBTs) from the United States, state-owned Central News Agency (CNA) reported on 27 April.

According to CNA, 28 M1A2T tanks were delivered to the Republic of China Army's (RoCA's) Army Armor Training Command at Hsinchu in northwestern Taiwan. The tanks will be deployed with the 6th Army Corps, based in Taoyuan and responsible for operations in northern Taiwan.

“[The new tanks] are expected to undergo testing, including readiness training and evaluation, before the army puts them into full operational service,” CNA reported.

The delivery of the final batch follows previous consignments, which were delivered in December 2024 and July 2025.

Taiwan ordered the 108 M1A2T tanks from the US in 2019 as a part of a wider USD2.22 billion deal that also included 250 Block I-92F Stinger missiles, BAE Systems M88A2 armoured recovery vehicles, and Oshkosh M1070A1 heavy equipment transporters.

The M1A2T variant of the M1 Abrams is fitted with a 120 mm smoothbore gun and bespoke gas-turbine engine. The configuration broadly resembles the Abrams System Enhancement Package version 3 (SEPv3), with modifications to meet RoCA requirements. These include a reconfigured turret with unspecified survivability enhancements, a modified electrical architecture, an auxiliary power unit, and a new ammunition datalink.
