The Singapore Army has unveiled two previously undisclosed weapons: a next-generation automated artillery system and a new precision-strike capability.
The systems were revealed in images released on social media on 2 October to mark the 50th anniversary of the Singapore Army's 6th Division.
The images show a new self-propelled howitzer and a soft-skin truck-mounted missile system alongside other known platforms, including the Leopard 2SG tank and the High-Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS).
The self-propelled howitzer appears to comprise a 155 mm artillery weapon mounted on a wheeled military truck chassis with a protected cab. The system closely resembles the SIGMA automated self-propelled howitzer developed by Israeli company Elbit Systems.
The missile system appears to be based on a launcher pack containing multiple canisters. Its external appearance resembles launchers associated with Rafael's Spike non-line-of-sight (NLOS) missile family.
The Singapore Army did not identify either system in the images.
In response to questions from Janes , Singapore's Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) confirmed the roles of both systems on 4 October, but did not disclose their manufacturers or technical specifications.
MINDEF described the self-propelled howitzer as a “truck mounted gun [that] is fully automated and will be the [Singapore] Army's next generation howitzer”.
“It will be progressively introduced into service and replace the SSPH Primus and FH-2000,” MINDEF said, referring to legacy artillery systems produced by ST Engineering.
