Otokar and Leonardo integrate Tulpar AFV with HITFACT turret in tests

Turkish land systems manufacturer Otokar and Italian defence conglomerate Leonardo have completed integration and live firing tests of the Leonardo HITFACT (Highly Integrated Technology, Fire Against Combat Tank) MkII 120 mm turret on Otokar's Tulpar tracked armoured fighting vehicle (AFV), the companies said in news releases on 18 September 2026.

The companies first announced the integration of the Italian turret onto the Turkish AFV's hull during the World Defence Show in Saudi Arabia in 2024.

Some of the recent tests were conducted in Italy, at Leonardo's facility in La Spezia, which is equipped, among other things, with a complete tank test track featuring an APG, obstacles and ramps, Otokar told Janes on 24 September. Subsequently the live firing tests, in both static and dynamic conditions, were performed at the military firing range, near Rome.

During the test both training and live ammunition was used against standard NATO target boards, which is the common benchmark for assessing the accuracy of this type of system under different conditions, both during static firing and while on the move, the company added.

When asked why the integration and live firing tests were conducted in 2026 for a project first announced in 2024 Otokar said that in 2024 a preliminary integration of the turret onto the hull was carried out. Subsequently, in response to end-user interest in the solution, Leonardo and Otokar decided to complete the integration and conduct the related live-fire tests to further strengthen the robustness of their proposal.
