Norway orders Patria 6x6 armoured vehicles

The Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency (NDMA) has ordered 20 Patria 6x6 armoured personnel carriers (APCs) under the multinational Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) programme, the agency and Finnish company announced ease on 24 August 2026. The NDMA said on its website that the first two APCs are scheduled to be delivered before 25 December 2026.

The agency told Janes on 27 August that the order includes Patria 6x6 medical evacuation (medevac) and command and control (C2) vehicles, as well as related support, training and spare parts, with an option for another 40 vehicles. The NDMA said all vehicles in the contract will be configured to be ready for Kongsberg Protector RS4 remote weapon stations (RWS).

The agency told Janes that Patria will do the common integration for all CAVS participants, already approved for use in Sweden.

The NDMA valued the contract at NOK500 million (USD53.6 million) for 20 CAVS armoured vehicles, with exercising the option for an additional 40 vehicles adding approximately NOK1 billion.

Defence investment

Norwegian Defence Minister Tore Sandvik said, “We are now upgrading the Norwegian Armed Forces and investing in several new capacities. New armoured vehicles provide mobility, flexibility and protection. This strengthens our defence capability. This investment gives us a common platform of armoured vehicles together with several of our allies. It makes it easier to cooperate on, among other things, logistics, maintenance and training. In this way, we make better use of resources and strengthen both Norway and NATO's defence capability.”
