The HDF has received all 44 Leopard 2A7 MBTs it ordered in 2018. (KNDS)

The Hungarian Defence Forces (HDF) received its final Leopard 2A7HU main battle tank (MBT) on 12 December, KNDS and the HDF have announced. The HDF said on its website on 15 December that the 44th Leopard 2A7HU was received at the barracks of its 1st Armoured Brigade in Tata.

In addition to the MBTs, the contract signed in December 2018 included 24 Panzerhaubitze (PzH) 2000 self-propelled howitzers, three Leguan armoured vehicle-launched bridges, five Wisent armoured recovery vehicles, a simulation centre, and a comprehensive training and logistics package, KNDS noted in a press release on 12 December. Hungary also received 12 second-hand Leopard 2A4s that it used for training to prepare to operate the Leopard 2A7s.

The German vehicles replace the HDF's T-72 MBTs and D-20 152 mm towed gun howitzers.
