Finland procures up to over 100 Patria TREMOS mortar systems

The Finnish Defence Forces (FDF) will procure up to over 100 Patria TREMOS 120 mm mortar systems, the Finnish Army and Patria announced in separate press releases on 8 September 2026. The contract includes options for hundreds of systems to be procured.
The Finnish Army, which designates the system Modular Mobile Mortar (M3), valued the contract at EUR49.9 million (USD58 million). Patria said deliveries would begin in 2026 and continue through 2028. The Finnish Army received a pre-series batch in 2025 and began training conscripts on the system at the beginning of 2026, with deliveries of the first M3s planned for the fourth quarter of this year.
Colonel Ari Mure, Inspector of Infantry in the Finnish Army Command, said, “The new M3 system improves our force mobility, protection, and capability for fire delivery. The army's area of responsibility is wide, and a number of systems will be necessary. Now in the first phase, up to more than one hundred systems will be procured, and the agreement with its options allows for the procurement of hundreds of systems for all areas ranging from Hanko to northernmost Lapland.”
The Finnish Army said mortars are part of its combined joint fires, with heavy mortars employed to support manoeuvring forces, for example when unmanned aerial vehicles are not usable. The service expected the M3 to be a significant capability for infantry indirect fire support, with a rate of fire equal to that of a towed mortar.
