DVD 2026: Lockheed Martin integrates WCSP-derived turret onto Redback IFV

Lockheed Martin UK unveiled a crewed turret originally developed for the cancelled Warrior Capability Sustainment Programme (WCSP) integrated onto Hanwha Aerospace's Redback infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) at the Defence Vehicle Dynamics (DVD) exhibition in Millbrook from 16-17 September 2026.
The configuration represents the first integration of the UK-built turret with the South Korean Redback platform. Lockheed Martin completed the work in 12 weeks, finishing approximately one week before the exhibition, project chief engineer Christopher Jones told Janes at DVD 2026.
The turret is armed with CTA International's 40 mm Cased Telescoped Armament System (40CTAS), as specified for WCSP. However, Jones said the design incorporates a modular weapon mounting that would allow customers to select a 25 mm or 30 mm Bushmaster cannon, or the 40CTAS, during production. The 40CTAS installation carries 70 ready rounds in the turret and can be reloaded from under armour, while stoppages can be cleared without exposing the crew. The turret provides an elevation range of −10° to +45°.
Lockheed Martin has connected the turret to its SkyKeeper command-and-control (C2) system, enabling the vehicle to receive and transmit air-surveillance information. Jones said that, when using the 40 mm kinetic-energy airburst ammunition, the vehicle could independently engage unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The company previously described the Redback integration as a “dual role turret system ” offering IFV and very-short range air defence firepower, with SkyKeeper incorporated into a turret architecture for the first time.
