Babcock and Supacat sign MOU to cooperate on UK's Land Mobility Vehicle programme

Babcock and Supacat have signed an MoU to collaborate on replacing the British Army's Land Rovers. (Babcock)

Babcock announced in a press release on 22 July 2026 that it and UK defence small and medium enterprise (SME) Supacat had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on Babcock's proposed replacement for the British Army's Land Rover as part of the service's Light Mobility Vehicle (LMV) competition.

Babcock said the MoU follows the completion of Jackal 3 deliveries to the UK earlier in July and would draw on this experience to design and deliver a sovereign capability.

Babcock has developed the General Logistics Vehicle (GLV) family for the LMV programme based on the Toyota Land Cruiser LC70 platform, which includes medium wheelbase, long wheelbase, and utility variants. Under the MoU, Babcock and Supacat will explore how they can enhance the offer.

A Babcock spokesman told Janes on 24 July, “The General Logistics Vehicle isn't currently offered in an armoured configuration, but we have armoured designs should they be required.”

The UK MoD announced the beginning of the retirement of the British Army's 5,000 Land Rovers on 20 March 2026, with the first of thousands of vehicles replacing them starting in 2030.

Supacat has also partnered with KNDS Deutschland to compete for the UK Ministry of Defence's (MoD's) Land Mobility Programme (LMP), the two companies announced on 13 November 2025. Under the MoU, the two companies will together offer KNDS's Dingo 3 and Armoured Command and Liaison Vehicle (ACLV) variants for the light and medium/heavy protected mobility categories of the LMP. The companies plan to offer a family of vehicles to meet the UK MoD's future requirements for the Troop Carrying Vehicle (TCV), ambulance, and command roles.
