Overland AI showcased its Ibex unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) platform that will integrate with the US Marine Corps (USMC) Marine Air Defense Integrated System (MADIS) and is being trialled by the US Army's 75th Ranger Regiment, a company official told Janes .
The company revealed the platform on 13 October during the Association of the United States Army's (AUSA's) annual conference in Washington, DC.
In June 2026 the USMC awarded Overland AI a USD19.7 million Other Transaction Authority contract to produce more than a dozen unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) for MADIS programme. The award was funded through the Department of Defense's Accelerate the Procurement and Fielding of Innovative Technologies (APFIT) initiative that aims to transition emerging technologies from prototyping into production.
This included 15 platforms, and since then the company has added three more vehicles for the 75th Ranger Regiment for about USD5 million via APFIT, Ira Mitchell, senior manager at Overland AI, told Janes on 13 October at AUSA.
Testing on Ibex is happening now at company facilities, and in the first quarter of 2027 deliveries will begin under the APFIT contract, Mitchell said.
Ibex is fully autonomous and requires no remote control or teleoperation. “Instead, they leverage the company's OverDrive software stack, OverWatch user interface, and SPARK hardware infrastructure to maneuver independently,” Overland AI said in a statement.
