Poland receives first K2 MBTs under second executive contract

Poland received the first shipment of 28 K2GF Black Panther main battle tanks (MBTs) under the second executive contract for the tanks on 24 August 2026, the Polish Armaments Agency (AA) announced in a press release the next day. The agency said the delivery included a “sufficient” supply of tank ammunition and the necessary tools for maintenance of the MBTs.

After unloading, the Black Panthers were transported to Polish Army units in eastern Poland.

The AA, representing the State Treasury, signed the second executive contract with Hyundai Rotem for more K2 MBTs at Zakłady Mechaniczne (Mechanical Plant) ‘Bumar-Łabędy' in Gliwice on 1 August 2025. The USD6.5 billion contract is for 180 tanks to be delivered between 2026 and 2030: 116 in the K2GF configuration to be delivered between 2026 and 2027 and 64 in the K2PL Polonised configuration between 2028 and 2030.

The contract also includes support vehicles, including 31 armoured recovery vehicles, 25 armoured engineer vehicles, and 25 armoured vehicle launched bridges. The support vehicles are scheduled to be delivered in 2029-31.

Under the contract, the first three K2PL tanks will be manufactured in South Korea and changes from the K2GF configuration will be tested, with final assembly of 61 K2PL tanks to be carried out at ‘Bumar-Łabędy'.

The contract also includes training and logistics packages, delivery of a ‘significant' supply of ammunition (including 120 mm tank and small-caliber ammunition). The logistics package includes spare parts, special tool kits, test equipment, maintenance tools, and technical documentation. The training package includes training ammunition, embedded training system onboard simulators, and training of instructors, crews, and technical personnel.
