Türkiye has committed to procuring “a significant number of Atmaca land-based long-range cruise missiles,” NATO said in a 7 July 2026 press release.

In the release NATO described Roketsan's Atmaca as a “land-based long-range cruise missile”, rather than an anti-ship missile. This indicates that the Turkish Armed Forces have procured the Kara Atmaca (also called the Atmaca-UM) land attack cruise missile, rather than the Atmaca anti-ship missile. The Kara Atmaca is fired from a truck-based launcher and has a range of 280 km with a 250 kg warhead.

The Atmaca anti-ship missile has a range of 250 km with a 220 kg warhead. Roketsan says it can be launched from ships, aircraft, or land launchers and can attack ships or fixed land targets.

Yaşar Güler, Türkiye's Minister of National Defence, said in April that deliveries to the Turkish Armed Forces included Atmaca missiles.

Roketsan's CEO, Murat İkinci, said on social media on 7 July that the company was made a contractor within the scope of the 2026 NATO Defence Industry Forum in the areas of strike power capabilities, integrated air and missile defence systems, and space and surveillance capabilities.

Those were among several agreements announced on 7 July by the president of the Turkish Secretariat of Defence Industries (SSB) Haluk Görgün, who said that as well as the three listed above, NATO members would jointly develop critical raw materials for the defence industry and NATO's unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) superiority. He counted Turkish entities Aselsan, STM, and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (Türkiye Bilimsel ve Teknolojik Araştırma Kurumu: TÜBİTAK), as well as Roketsan, as being among the contractors.
