Mach Industries adds energetics capabilities with Exquadrum acquisition

Mach Industries has completed the acquisition of Exquadrum, bringing energetics capabilities into its portfolio. Exquadrum will operate as Mach Energetics, a dedicated energetics division, according to a company statement on 19 May.

The acquisition integrates Exquadrum's “energetics system development and manufacturing infrastructure directly into [Mach Industries'] platform architecture”, expanding the company's ability to design and build unmanned systems, the statement said.

It will also enable Mach Industries to “accelerate development cycles, optimise performance for product-specific motor development, and reduce costs through tighter integration between propulsion, energetics, guidance, control, and airframe systems”, the statement said.

Exquadrum's capabilities include “solid rocket motor (SRM) propulsion technologies, launch capabilities, divert and attitude control systems, munitions, testing, and technical services”, the statement noted.

Other products include “initiators, pyroflare igniters, some liquid propulsion, some in-space propulsion” and the potential to produce warheads in the future, Ethan Thornton, CEO of Mach Industries, told Janes on 8 June.

The acquisition is part of Mach Industries' vertical integration strategy to increase manufacturing resilience, reduce reliance on external vendors, and prevent bottlenecks in qw11111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111development and production, the statement said.

Investment in Exquadrum's 70,000 sq ft (6,503 m ² ) facility in Victorville, California, including modern manufacturing systems, will enable it to increase throughput and reduce lead times, according to the statement.

The acquisition also brings Exquadrum's Forge energetics and rocket propulsion test site into Mach Industries, tightening development to production cycles, the statement said, adding that this infrastructure will support both internal programmes and external customers.
