The Luftwaffe has received into service the first Airbus Helicopters H145M Leichter Kampfhubschrauber (LKH) light attack rotorcraft for its special operations forces (SOF).
The service announced on 24 June 2026 that the first helicopters had been delivered into Laupheim Air Base in southern Germany.
“Procurement underway! New capabilities for our special forces!” the Luftwaffe said. “The first two H145M LKH SOF helicopters landed in Laupheim today. This light combat helicopter will support the operational readiness of our special forces - featuring innovative sensor technology, modern connectivity, and precision weaponry. With this helicopter, we are expanding our range of capabilities for the modern operational environment for greater striking power, increased flexibility, and enhanced operational effectiveness! Ready to protect! Ready to fight!”
These helicopters are part of an order for 62 (later increased to 82) that Germany ordered in December 2023 for its armed forces, with 72 going to the German Army (Heer) and 10 to the Luftwaffe SOF. In November 2024 Airbus Helicopters delivered the first H145M LKH helicopters to the German Army's International Helicopter Training Centre at Bückeburg, in the north of the country. Deliveries of the initial 62 H145M LKH helicopters are due to be concluded by the end of 2028, while no completion date has been disclosed for the now expanded order of 82 helicopters.
These H145M LKH helicopters join 15 H145Ms operated by the Kommando Spezialkräfte (KSK) special forces and nine (with further orders expected) H145 Light Utility Helicopters (LUHs) that the Heer uses in the search-and-rescue role.
