Javelin Joint Venture, Tata to explore missile co-production in India

India's Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) has signed an agreement with the Javelin Joint Venture (JJV), a partnership between Lockheed Martin and Raytheon, to collaborate on the Javelin all-up round (AUR).

Under the memorandum of understanding (MoU), announced by Lockheed Martin on 30 August, the companies said they intend to explore opportunities to jointly manufacture Javelin AUR in India.

“TASL and the JJV will explore the establishment of a final assembly and integration facility for the Javelin AUR and component production capabilities in India,” Lockheed Martin said. “This agreement will support future production of the Javelin system while providing unique opportunities for Indian industry and strengthen regional stability for the Indo-Pacific.”

The agreement follows the Indian Army's signing of a Letter of Offer and Acceptance to procure the Javelin anti-tank guided weapon (ATGW) system, announced by the US Embassy in India on 28 August. The planned procurement covers command launch units and missile rounds, while the TASL MoU relates specifically to potential production of the AUR.

The JJV also renewed its partnership with India's state-owned Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) in February 2025 through an MoU, originally signed in 2020, aimed at exploring opportunities to jointly manufacture Javelin ATGW in India.

The US Department of State approved a possible USD45.7 million sale of the Javelin ATGW system to India in November 2025. At the time, the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) said that the deal would include 100 FGM-148 Javelin rounds, one Javelin FGM-148 missile, and 25 Javelin Lightweight Command Launch Units (LwCLUs) or Javelin Block 1 CLUs.
