Malaysian company AMP Corporation has unveiled a mobile radar and surveillance vehicle – designated the Mobile Surveillance Unit (MSU) Mk-III – at the Defence Services Asia (DSA) 2026 exhibition held in Kuala Lumpur from 20 to 23 April.

AMP Corporation technical engineer Jamaluddin Sulaiman told Janes that the MSU Mk‑III is the third-generation system in the MSU family and is designed to complement existing radar infrastructure operated by civilian security agencies rather than the armed forces. He added that the system is intended for use by organisations such as the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA).

According to Sulaiman, earlier MSU variants were based on fixed radar stations. “This is the mobile civilian unit to complement the existing radar coverage,” he said. “The [MSU Mk‑III] is for rapid deployment – we can go anywhere, on rough roads.”

Sulaiman said the MSU Mk‑III integrates two primary sensors: a marine radar and an electro‑optic system incorporating a thermal imaging camera. The surveillance system is powered by onboard batteries, providing up to eight hours of continuous operation on a full charge.

He added that the MSU Mk‑III is expected to undergo an acceptance test with the Malaysian Coast Guard by late May. Sulaiman said that earlier MSU variants have already demonstrated the underlying surveillance capability, with the Mk‑III retaining those functions while adding mobility.

Sulaiman said, "Earlier MSU configurations required substantial manpower and logistical support, including multiple transport vehicles. The MSU MK-I, for instance, utilised two large transporters, resulting in extended deployment and setup durations.

"The MSU MK-III addresses these limitations through an integrated 4x4 ruggedised design, enabling rapid deployment, reduced manpower dependency, and improved operational efficiency in field conditions," Sulaiman added.
