Despite difficulties posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, COTECMAR expects to launch and deliver the new buoy tender vessel to the Colombian Navy in December 2020.

Despite construction delays caused by a three-week nationwide lockdown due to Covid-19 restrictions, the Colombian state-run company Corporacion de Ciencia y Tecnología para el Desarrollo de la Industria Naval (COTECMAR) still expects to meet a December 2020 delivery deadline for an auxiliary vessel for the Colombian Navy and the General Maritime Directorate Dimar.

COTECMAR started construction of the B2408 model buoy tender in its Mamonal yards on 14 February. The nationwide lockdown in March has caused the work on the ship to run behind schedule, a spokesperson for the company told Janes earlier this month, but the company still plans to deliver the ship by the end of the year.

The new ship will operate in the Caribbean Sea supporting a wide range of coastal, harbour, and offshore activities, as well as servicing aids to navigation.

It will have an overall length of 24 m, a beam of 8 m, a draft of 2 m, and a displacement of 205 tonnes.
