Varjo providing XR-4 headsets with Fynd Reality's Core XR training platform to Ukraine

Helsinki-based company Varjo has been selected as the extended reality (XR) technology provider for an armoured vehicle training programme being delivered by Norwegian company Fynd Reality to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), according to a Varjo press release on 31 March.

Ukrainian forces are already using Varjo XR-4 headsets and Fynd Reality's Core XR training platform in Ukraine for procedural and maintenance training across multiple vehicles, the release said.

The systems were delivered to Ukraine as part of a NOK82.5 million (USD8.5 million) acquisition by the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency (NDMA, or Forsvarsmateriell: FMA), according to an agency news release on 6 March 2026. Varjo said it and Fynd Reality supplied 39 XR systems to Ukraine in the first rollout. Following the deployment, training content is being developed with Ukrainian partners, the Varjo release added. Training content developed for Ukraine can also be used by the Norwegian Armed Forces, the NDMA said.

The platforms delivered as part of the March acquisition met more than 180 technical requirements set by the NDMA, many of which related to security, it added. The Fynd Reality software includes a Virtual Tactical Operation Centre (VTOC) used for decision-making during scenario-based training in XR, the agency said.

Varjo launched a refreshed XR-4 series headset with mixed reality for training across air, land, and sea in October 2025, the company added. The series includes a redesigned headband with a new front plate compatible with SteamVR tracking, mixed reality for cockpits, and operational support until 2030.
