INVAP delivers two RPA-200M radars to Argentine Army

Argentina's INVAP on 15 April delivered two RPA-200M aerial surveillance radars to the Argentine Army.

The radars were purchased by the Argentine Ministry of Defence (MoD) in 2022 for a total of USD23 million, including spares, training, and a simulator for training, the MoD said. The pair of RPA-200M radars will replace Cardion AN/TPS-44 Alert MK II systems purchased in the 1980s.

The RPA-200M is an AESA three-dimensional mobile radar designed for simultaneous detection and tracking of more than a thousand targets, according to INVAP.

The RPA-200M consists of an ADS-B sensor, an IFF sensor, and a 3D primary sensor. Designed and produced by INVAP, the radar utilises Doppler processing across the entire coverage volume (A-MTD), digital beamforming (DBF), GaN amplification technology, software-based modular and scalable architecture, machine learning capabilities, and an electronic counter-countermeasures system (ECCM) for scenarios with jamming.

A complete base system (3D Radar, MSSR/IFF, ADS-B), can be contained within a 20-foot ISO container and be transported by a trailer, helicopter, or inside a C-130 Hercules cargo aircarft. Extra modules with additional operating stations can be added to the base configuration.
