Eurosatory 2026: Ukraine's Air Command Centre using L7 Simulator system for interceptor UAV training

The Air Command Centre of the Ukrainian Air Force has been provided with an undisclosed number of Vartovii drone simulation and training systems produced by Ukrainian manufacturer L7 Simulators, Ievgen Terentiev, manager at L7 Simulators, told Janes at the Eurosatory 2026 exhibition held in Paris from 15-19 June.

The simulator system is used to train Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) operators to use interceptor UAVs against a variety of target UAVs including variations of Russia's Geran one way attack (OWA) UAV. The Vartovii system includes a command centre for a gunner, a pilot centre for the interceptor operator, goggles, and a tablet. A mobile fire unit within the Ukrainian Air Defence Forces (within the Ukrainian Air Force) includes a truck with a rocket system, a command centre with a radar, and an interceptor UAV, according to Terentiev. “It's not just about hitting the Geran; it's also about coordinating [the strike] and communication,” Terentiev said.

“A command centre is used to see a target on a radar like in real life. The pilot is flying already and needs to find the target because a Geran-type target can only be seen with your eyes about 200 m away,” Terentiev explained. During training, Ukrainian military operators tend to use the screen or a tablet instead of the provided glasses. “It's just easier for the eyes,” Terentiev added.
