Airbus Helicopters notes Covid-19 resilience for 2021 but expects impact in 2022

Airbus Helicopters has said it is well placed to ride out the effects of the Covid-19 global pandemic, but expects the impact to be felt in 2022 as the order backlog is reduced.

Speaking to Janes and other media on 26 January, Airbus Helicopters CEO Bruno Even said that as current production is supported by orders placed in previous years and ongoing French government support, there should be no immediate effect on output. However, as these orders reach completion through 2021, he anticipates a relative shortfall in 2022.

“All orders confirmed before the crisis are being followed through, and this shows trust in Airbus Helicopters,” Even said. “2022 will be a challenge, where the impact will begin.” He noted that the company’s Marignane plant in southern France is especially vulnerable due to its reliance on the Super Puma range of helicopters, for which 2020 sales were down compared with previous years.
