Ukraine's SBU deploys delta-wing interceptor UAV against Russia's Geran-5

The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU), also known as the SBU (Sluzhba Bezpeky Ukrayiny), deployed an unnamed interceptor unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in what it called “a successful operation” against a Russian Geran-5 turbojet-powered one way attack (OWA) UAV, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a 19 September 2026 social media post.
“This marks the second successful use of a new Ukrainian interceptor drone by the Security Service of Ukraine today,” President Zelensky said in the post.
Earlier the same day, President Zelensky posted a video marked with the SSU logo showing a delta-wing UAV being launched from a rail catapult. The UAV appears to be fitted with an exhaust nozzle, indicating the use of a turbojet engine. The same video includes what appears to be thermal footage captured by the delta-wing camera, showing the exhaust signature of a UAV that matches imagery of a Geran-5 OWA UAV. An on-screen title also calls the UAV a Russian Geran-5. The accompanying post refers to a newly developed interceptor UAV. “The Security Service's military counter-intelligence has achieved a good result in countering jet-powered Shaheds,” President Zelensky said in the post.
The two videos posted on 19 September appear to reference the same delta wing interceptor UAV that was used by the SSU.
