Ukraine's Chaklun awaiting certification for turbojet interceptor UAV

Ukrainian company Chaklun is awaiting certification from the Ukrainian government for its turbojet powered Jet interceptor unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), Ivan Andrushchak, business development at Chaklun, told Janes on at the Eurosatory 2026 exhibition held in Paris from 15-19 June.

The certification process is expected to be finalised within the next few weeks. “We are not able to supply our UAVS if our product does not comply with NATO standards. Once that's done we will be able to supply to our [Ukraine's] special forces,” Andrushchak said.

Ukraine's Ministry of Defence (MoD) is developing its quality assurance system in line with NATO requirements. In October 2025, the MoD said it would be further improving its system as per international ISO (international organisation for standardisation) and NATO AQAP (Allied Quality Assurance Publications) standards, according to a 20 October 2025 press release from the MoD.

The Jet was designed specifically to intercept Russia's turbojet engined Geran-4 and Geran-5 one way attack (OWA) UAVs, according to Andrushchak.

The Jet can reach a speed of 450 km/h and has a cruise speed of 220 km/h, according to Chaklun. The interceptor is controlled via the Chaklun LRS system which has automated target acquisition and an auto-lock system. The target acquisition system doesn't “just lock onto the heat of the engine”, according to Andrushchak, it looks for vulnerabilities within the platform. “It's a comprehensive approach and it's not locking in on engine parts, right? It's the whole airframe, with the help of computer vision. If the pilot is not seeing the target on the monitor, the computer vision is highlighting the target,” he said.
