Ukraine conflict: UDCG, EU pledge air defence systems, UAVs, and artillery shells to Kyiv

The Ukraine Defence Contact Group (UDCG) pledged air defence systems, UAVs, and artillery shells to Kyiv during a virtual meeting on 8 September 2026. Germany and the UK, which co-chair the UDCG, and the EU have announced military aid packages for Ukraine.

The UK government announced in a press release on 8 September that it was pledging a package of defence interceptors, large-calibre artillery rounds, and UAVs to boost Ukraine's defences. Downing Street said its GBP100 million (nearly USD135.3 million) contribution to NATO's Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) would support Ukraine with Patriot missiles and other air defence equipment that would be delivered before the end of the year, helping Ukraine defend its critical national infrastructure, civilians, and armed forces from Russian attacks.

The UK government said 25,000 of the 120,000 UAVs it committed to provide to Ukraine in 2026 had been delivered, including interceptor, reconnaissance, and attack UAVs. It added that the UK had recently delivered its millionth round of large-calibre artillery ammunition to Ukraine, to be followed by tens of thousands more to be sent in the coming months with funding from Britain, Germany, Denmark, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden.
