Ukrainian defence technology company Rovertech plans to unveil its Tarantula counter unmanned aerial vehicle (C-UAV) system for its Zmiy family of unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) within the next few months, Borys Drozhak, co-founder and CBO of Rovertech told Janes on 1 October 2026 in London.
In the third quarter of 2026 a prototype Zmiy base-platform UGV equipped with the Tarantula C-UAV system underwent testing with members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). The system currently includes a netting effector which is fired once a UAV is detected and comes within range. “There could also be other effectors as well,” Drozhak added.
Janes was shown a video where a Zmiy UGV equipped with a smoke grenade-like tube fired a net, entangling and downing a UAV.
The C-UAV system is AI-supported, with development of its software and hardware ongoing. “For example, our Aura product is developed with our French partners,” Drozhak said, adding “it focuses on target detection”.
