Saab signs GlobalEye agreement with Canadian DIA

Saab announced the signing of a non-binding term-sheet agreement with the Canadian Defence Investment Agency (DIA) on 25 September 2026.

The agreement established the “scope and foundation for detailed negotiations” for the acquisition of the company's GlobalEye Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) aircraft for the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF).

Micael Johansson, president and CEO of Saab, said in a company statement the agreement “establishes a clear framework for the next phase of our engagement. With a well-defined scope in place, we are well positioned to continue discussions and demonstrate how Saab's proven and highly capable AEW&C solution can meet Canada's requirements”.

The proposed programme calls for the acquisition of six GlobalEye aircraft alongside “associated systems, training and support” according a Saab press release.

“The discussions will focus on a system configuration reflecting Canada's operational requirements, as well as industrial participation, capability development and programme execution,” Saab said.

Canada previously selected the Saab GlobalEye for its future airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) requirement in May 2026, with the company stating its intent to increase research and development through the transfer of technology to Canada.

Additionally, Saab signed a related teaming agreement with training provider CAE at the time.
