NATO MMU receives 10th MRTT

The Multinational Multi Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) Unit (MMU) has received its 10 ^th Airbus A330-200 aircraft.

The Belgian Air Force (BAF) announced the milestone on 15 September 2026, some six-and-a-half months after the MMU was declared to be fully operational on 30 March 2026.

Belgium, the Czech Republic, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and Norway now share the use of 10 KC-30M aircraft (as the MRTT is designated in NATO service). Two more were ordered in June 2025 to accommodate Denmark and Sweden joining the MMU, with deliveries due in 2028 and 2029. Finland was added to the programme earlier in 2026, although this did not include the procurement of additional aircraft.

The MRTT Fleet (MMF) is operated by the MMU out of Eindhoven Air Base in the Netherlands, from Cologne-Wahn Air Base in Germany, and at Karup Air Base in Denmark.

Established in 2019, the MMU helped to evacuate civilians and military personnel from Afghanistan as part of the wider international airlift out of Kabul. The unit also participated in ferrying medical supplies as part of the global Covid-19 pandemic relief effort, and has flown medical evacuation (medevac) sorties out of Poland for people injured in the continuing war in Ukraine. Most recently, in December 2025 the unit forward deployed to Karup Air Base in the north of Denmark to more effectively cover NATO's Arctic and North Atlantic regions.
