Latvia orders more Blaze interceptor UAVs under framework agreement with Origin Robotics

Latvia has signed the first contract for Blaze interceptor unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) under a December 2025 multi-year framework agreement with Origin Robotics, the company announced in a press release on 19 May 2026. The framework agreement is open to other European countries and eligible for EU Security Action Fund (SAFE) financing.

Latvia's cabinet of ministers approved the contract on 21 April, but its value and the number of Blaze interceptor UAVs ordered was not disclosed. Origin CEO and co-founder Agris Kipurs said the framework agreement “gives Latvia the security of procuring Blaze capability for multiple years ahead, with no new lead times and no procurement gaps. Both sides can renegotiate the technical specification each year. That means Latvia will always be receiving the latest version of Blaze, and because the framework is open to other nations, allies can join without starting their procurement from zero. This is ... the right model for a technology that evolves as fast as autonomous aerial systems.”

According to Origin, renegotiating technical specifications annually ensures that each delivery reflects the current state of the Blaze platform and secures buyers lead times and supply continuity for coming years, while retaining access to the latest product version as technology evolves and artificial intelligence, computer vision accuracy, and sensor integration improve continuously.

The company said that Blaze is designed, developed, and manufactured entirely in Latvia, qualifying it as a European-origin system under EU SAFE criteria, reflecting the system's compliance with European defence-industrial requirements and the growing urgency of counter-unmanned aircraft system (C-UAS) capabilities across NATO's eastern flank.
