GKN Aerospace reveals UAV demonstrator for Sweden

GKN Aerospace has revealed the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) demonstrator it is building for the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (Försvarets Materielverk: FMV).

Shown as a full-scale mock-up by the company at The Armed Forces Air Venture 2026 in Malmen, Linköping, on 21 August 2026, the UAV demonstrator brings together propulsion, aerostructures and systems integration expertise from Sweden, the Netherlands, and the UK. The public debut nine months since GKN Aerospace was contracted by the FMV in November 2025 marks the launch of the next phase of the programme to develop a UAV demonstrator and dedicated turbojet engine within 18 months for the Swedish Armed Forces.

“The programme includes the development of a dedicated turbojet engine, airframe and onboard systems. The demonstrator has been developed as a flexible platform for testing and evaluation, supporting the exploration of future uncrewed aviation technologies while providing valuable experience in how complex aerospace systems can be developed, integrated and manufactured on accelerated timelines,” GKN Aerospace said.

News of the milestone of the public reveal came four months after GKN Aerospace's Chief Technical Officer Russ Dunn outlined to Janes and other defence media in April 2026 the work that the company has been doing on the Swedish UAV demonstrator.
