Boeing wins USD75 million contract for JDAM LR production

Boeing announced on 5 August it won a USD75 million US Air Force Undefinitized Contract Action (UCA) for production of its BSU-111/B Payload Delivery Unit (PDU) Joint Direct Attack Munition Long Range (JDAM LR).
Bob Ciesla, vice president of Boeing Precision Engagement Systems, called JDAM LR's first production contract a “major milestone” for the system designed to provide the USAF with a low-cost solution “to eliminate long-range land and sea-based threats to US and international forces”.
Boeing said in its statement that the contract follows a nearly USD100 million investment into the programme and “clears it for initial productions of PDUs for the US Navy”.
The JDAM LR completed its first flight test in April 2026 with US Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) off the coast of California at Point Mugu Sea Range.
During the tests, the JDAM LR demonstrated “the weapon's safe separation; the ability to use existing aircraft interfaces; and controlled, powered free-flight and navigation”, traveling 200 n miles before reaching its target, according to a Navy press release at the time.
