Philippines receives two former USCG patrol boats

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has received two former US Coast Guard (USCG) Marine Protector-class patrol vessels.

The vessels will be commissioned as BRP Pag-asa , with pennant number 2701, and BRP Patag , with pennant number 2702, the PCG said on 23 August.

Images released by the PCG indicate that both vessels have been painted in PCG livery. The boats are expected to arrive in Manila in October 2026, the service said.

The transfer followed the completion of operational and maintenance training for 24 PCG personnel in Baltimore, Maryland, the service added.

The acquisition follows a transfer agreement finalised by US and Philippine officials in February 2026.

The Marine Protector class was developed for the USCG as a coastal patrol platform and is based on the Damen Stan Patrol 2600 design.

It has an overall length of 26.5 m, a top speed in excess of 25 kt, a range of approximately 900 n miles, and a crew complement of 10 personnel.

A distinctive feature of the design is its stern launch-and-recovery ramp for a rigid-hulled inflatable boat (RHIB), enabling boarding teams to be deployed while the vessel remains under way.

In USCG service, the class was fitted with two pedestal-mounted 12.7 mm M2 Browning machine guns for force-protection and law-enforcement missions.
