Pakistan conducts training launch of Fatah-II missile

Pakistan's Army Rocket Force Command (ARFC) has conducted a training launch of its Fatah-II surface-to-surface missile (SSM), the Pakistan armed force's Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced on 28 April.

ISPR said, “The training launch was aimed at training of troops, validating various technical parameters, and [a] performance evaluation of different sub-systems incorporated for improved accuracy and enhanced survivability.” However, ISPR did not disclose the location, evaluation parameters, and results of the launch.

The training launch likely indicates that ARFC has started deploying the Fatah-II missile. The launch follows the induction of the Fatah-II multiple rocket launcher (MRL) into the Pakistan Army in 2024.

At the time of Fatah-II's induction, ISPR said, “Fatah-II is being inducted in Pakistan's artillery divisions for stand-off [capability] and to engage the targets with precision.” The rocket system will enhance the “reach and lethality of [the] Pakistan Army's conventional arsenal”, ISPR added.

The Fatah-II missile was developed by the state-run Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) and the National Engineering & Scientific Commission (NESCOM).

ISPR has said that the missile has a maximum strike range of 400 km and is equipped with a “navigation system, unique trajectory, and manoeuvrable features, which make the launcher capable of engaging targets with high precision and defeating any missile defence system”.

The Fatah-II missile features an inertial navigation system (INS) and global navigation satellite services (GNSS); auto-aiming capability; and a levelling, positioning, and orientation system. It has a length of 7.5 m, can carry a 365 kg warhead, and has a circular error probability (CEP) of 50 m or less.
