Brazilian Army acquires US armoured wreckers

11 July 2018

The Brazilian Army is acquiring 10 Oshkosh Defense M984-series HEMTT (Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck) 8x8 protected heavy recovery trucks through the US Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programme. Spares, manuals, training, and technical assistance are also included.

The air-transportable vehicle will be locally designated as the “Viatura Blindada Especializada Socorro Média Sobre Rodas” and will be used in support of the army’s Iveco VBTP-MR Guarani 6x6 amphibious armoured vehicles. It is equipped with an armoured cab, crane, recovery winches, and provisions for the installation of machine guns.

An initial payment of USD9.2 million was authorised to support the deal after a letter of offer and acceptance (LOA) for the purchase was signed by the Brazilian Army Commission in Washington on behalf of the Brazilian Logistics Command and the US Government.
