The US Office of Management and Budget (OMB) director is objecting to the House Appropriations defence subcommittee (HAC-D) providing fiscal year 2019 (FY 2019) funding for the US Air Force’s (USAF’s) Northrop Grumman E-8 Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System (JSTARS) recapitalisation programme.
OMB Director Mick Mulvaney, in a 12 June letter to HAC Chairman Rodney Frelinghuysen of New Jersey, said the administration did not request funding for JSTARS recap. Instead, the USAF wants to cancel JSTARS recap in favour of an Advanced Battle Management System (ABMS), which the service did not request funding for in FY 2019. An interview request was made to the USAF on 13 June.
